HOW TO ENCOURAGE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS

TO SPEAK ENGLISH MORE OFTEN AND CONFIDENTLY

English is very important in this modern era, especially for English Department students. They have to be able to master English, from the basic to the advance. Speaking is one of the most important aspect in learning English, however many English Department students are seldom speaking English. One of the causes are because they don’t know many vocabularies, so they feel afraid to be laughed if they speak English incorrectly. There many are many reasons why English Department students should speak English more often and confidently.

Firstly, English Department students are students who are learning about English. Speaking is one of the most basic aspects in English, therefore they should be able to speak English.

Secondly, English is an international language. Many things use English as the language, such as smartphones’ setting, information on internet, foreign news, etc. Foreign tourists also use English to communicate with the natives. There’s no way a foreign tourist will communicate with the natives by using the natives’ language, except the tourist has been learning about the natives’ language.

Lastly, English is almost used in every workplaces. Most likely, English Department students’ future job will be related to English, so they should be able to speak English fluently. But, there are many non-English related jobs require English skills.

Based on the reasons above, I think it is clear that English is important for English Department students, especially in the Speaking aspect. There are many ways to improve speaking English ability, such as watching English conversation videos on YouTube, practicing in front of a mirror every day, consulting with the lecturer, etc. Let’s speak English together, let’s grab a bright future together!
